PHILOSOPHY

THE WOOD COMES FIRST
Every piece we build begins long before the bench. It begins with a tree.
We source our timber from trees that have already fallen, collected from coffee farms and forests in and around Boquete. We see every log through the milling process, dry the wood in our own kiln, and live with it until it is ready. By the time a board reaches the bench we know it inside and out.
WHAT THE LAND GIVES US
Panama produces hardwoods of extraordinary variety. Corotu, Teak, Guayacán, Algarrobo, and others less known, each carrying its own grain, figure, weight, and history. Some arrive with the quiet marks of fungal stain moving through the heartwood. Others with grain that has spent decades twisting toward light through a canopy.
We do not select wood for convenience. We select it for character. What the land gives us shapes what we build.

HOW WE BUILD
Our work sits in the tradition of historical designers and craftsmen, who believed that furniture should be made with deep respect for the material and without anything to hide. Hand-fitted joinery. Surfaces finished with hard wax oil and nothing else. No stains. No shortcuts.
Every material decision follows the wood. Spalted timber, prized for its figure but sometimes structurally complex, is occasionally worked as veneer when the wood itself calls for it. The method serves the material, not the other way around.
We build slowly and on purpose. A commission from Peña Urey is not a transaction. It is the beginning of something that should outlast the maker and the owner.

WHY IT MATTERS
Furniture made this way carries something that manufactured pieces cannot. The origin of the wood is known. The hands that shaped it are known. The joinery will hold for generations without glue or hardware to fail.
We believe the objects we live with shape the way we live. A table built from a tree that fell on a Boquete coffee farm, milled and dried and fitted by hand, brings something into a home that no catalog can offer.

To bring honest design and craftsmanship to the world from the Highlands of Chiriquí, from hardwoods sourced and dried ourselves. Made with intention and the shared values we live by and pass on to our children.
